It’s no secret that New Zealand is home to some of the world’s most beautiful scenery and it’s on the bucket list of many a professional and amateur photographer.

Given its size, it’s possible to travel the length and breadth of the country in just a few short weeks, shooting everything from bubbling mud and hot springs, to glaciers, mountains, golden beaches and azure blue lakes. That’s before we talk about the remarkable wildlife that’s on offer.

As a country, New Zealand has it all, and plenty more besides.  We’ve been booking trips for nearly 15 years and seeing our client’s photographs is one of the perks of the job. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite shots:

1. Lake Matheson

New Zealand’s “mirror lake” with Mount Cook in the background.

 

 

 

2.  The Emerald Lakes and the Blue Lake on the Tongariro Crossing

The Tongariro Crossing is a world heritage site and one of the world’s most spectacular one day walks. Its volcanic topography make it a photographer’s delight.

 

 

3. The Gannet Colony at Cape Kidnappers

One of the world’s largest mainland gannet colonies, and also one of the most accessible places to photograph these magnificent seabirds at a close distance.

 

 

 

4. Bad weather at Westport on the west coast of South Island

There’s sensational scenery all along the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island. It’s hard to take a bad picture of the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki or the rock and driftwood sculptures at Gillespies beach, but this shot of bad weather coming in at Westport is both dramatic and beautiful.

 

 

5. Mitre Peak at Milford Sound

This is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and photographed views, and it’s always spectacular. Take a cruise up the Sound to discover wildlife including dolphins, fur seals, albatross and, if you go at the right time of year, Fiordland crested penguins.
