High in the Southern Alps, the glaciers are well out of reach if travelling by land. A helicopter flight with Glacier Helicopters takes you to parts of the glaciers inaccessible to any other mode of transport.

  • An exceptional alpine experience

A range of scenic flights from 20 to 40 minutes offer exceptional alpine experiences, encompassing Fox and Franz Josef Glacier and the surrounding  Mount Cook National Park.

Fox is one of the few Glaciers in the world which exists in such close proximity to both an ocean and a rain forest.   Franz Josef Glacier provides some of the most stunning ‘ice architecture’ of any Glacier in the world. The Glacier was in a state of advance until 2008 when it started retreating. Following a spectacular collapse of the terminal face in 2012, it is now only accessible by helicopter.

A heli-hike can be arranged for those who want to spend a little longer on the glaciers and charter flights are available on request.

  • "Landing on the glacier was so surreal!"

Your accommodation choices were spot on, they were all so different, it was very difficult to pick a favourite! The itinerary and particularly the directions you gave were excellent, they took the pressure off even long driving days and we were able to find all of the hotels pretty easily. Occasionally we went ‘off piste’ but swiftly returned to the main highways.   Unfortunately the weather prevented the Mount Cook flight taking off however we did manage the glacier flight which we were really pleased about — landing on and taking off from the glacier was so surreal!    As a finale, Akaroa was a fantastic choice for a wind down at the end of the trip. Thank you again for the superb itinerary and organisation.    Judy and Peter Farren

Milford Sound
Mitre Peak towering over Milford Sound has to be one of New Zealand’s most recognisable and iconic images. The vertical spectacle really is astonishing - Mitre Peak rises straight up from the sea to more than a mile high and waterfalls cascade down the sheer walls of the fiord.
