  • Luxury Beachfront Accommodation

The Factory is situated on the beachfront at Hapuku, 10 minutes North of Kaikoura.     The accommodation is in a separate wing of the factory and has  3 bedrooms, a bathroom and an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Breakfast can be provided or you can choose to self-cater.

Sean and Skip are the owners of The Factory and are more that happy to make wonderful coffee for you at any time!     Your stay at The Factory is exclusive with only one party booked at a time. You are guaranteed privacy and peace, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the amazing location.

This quirky old dairy was fun and we really enjoyed our time with Sean and Skip who are great hosts. The facilities are really good and the location is great for visits to Kaikoura itself. This is a place we would highly recommend.
Sean organised a heli trip with South Pacific helicopters and Daniel (the owner) flew us in a nearly new EC130. Skip came with me as my guest whilst Maggie sat on the beach watching dolphins. Whale watching and then touring the fault line of the earthquake along the beach and then up into the mountains was just incredible. This is a trip that I would highly recommend, especially as the The Factory has its own helipad so you can be collected and dropped off there.   Our clients Tony & Maggie

  • Kaikoura

Kaikoura is renowned for  whale watching  and is one of the few places in the world that these magnificent creatures can be seen year round.

Other wildlife experiences include  swimming with dusky dolphins, one of the most acrobatic dolphins, and can form spectacular groups of several hundred animals.

There are over 79 species of whale and dolphin in the world today and 34 of these species have been sighted in New Zealand waters with over half of these in the waters off Kaikoura. The most common whales on the coast are the sperm whales, but in addition there are frequent sightings of other types of whales including humpback, minke and orca, which pass through the area at regular intervals.

For something different you could try walking into the sea off the rocks near Kaikoura and having a roll in the kelp with New Zealand fur seals — this is arguably even more fun than swimming with dolphins!

Though best known for whales and dolphins, another wildlife experience in Kaikoura is a  pelagic birds tour. Kaikoura is home to up to 12 species of albatross, as well as numerous other pelagic birds such as penguins, gannets and petrels, which can all be seen in close
