Luxury working farm accommodation
Originally a wool station, Wharekauhau still is a working farm, combining this and luxury accommodation within its 5,550 acres. And there are plenty of options available – from boutique rooms in the main lodge, to a 3 bedroomed chateau, Wharekauhau really does have every option you need to rest your head!
Wairarapa is said to be an ‘icon for rural regions’ and prides itself on being known for its small businesses and history. With so much to do and see, we think Wharekauhau is one of the most engaging places to stay on the North Island.

Wellington & around
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. It is a very cosmopolitan city with a great waterfront location and fantastic dining – a great city to visit whilst holidaying in New Zealand.
It is also home to Te Papa Tongarewa, the superb national museum of New Zealand which offers a complete and fascinating insight into the human and natural history of the country.
Only 2km from the centre of the city, another fascinating attraction is Zealandia and Karori Wildlife Sanctuary.
Zealandia is a beautiful and impressive 225 hectare area of native forest that is completely enclosed by predator-proof fencing which protects the wide variety of rare New Zealand wildlife from introduced predators such as stoats and rats.
A real highlight of a visit to Zealandia is to join a guided night walk that will take you into the bush in search of little spotted kiwi and New Zealand’s endemic lizard, the tuatara.
